The People of Springfield v. Burns

This is a really short case that is how in the beginning of the episode Marge vs the Monorail. The city of springfield fines burns for 3 million dollars he pays in cash and also buys the justice statue on the stand. Judge Snyder acts as if it were an auction.

That’s it.

Simpson v. Captain McCallister

What Happened:

Captain McCallister in a TV commercial offers all you can eat seafood at The Frying Dutch Man. Homer goes to the restaurant with Marge and he never stops eating. Later the captain kicks out Homer from the restaurant. Homer decides to go to Lionel Hutz’s office and sue McCallister for false advertising. Hutz says it is the most fraudulent advertising since Never Ending Story.

The Trial:

It is presided by Judge Snyder. The trial starts with McCallister testimony in which he says:”Twas a moonless night, dark as pitch, when out of the mist came a beast more stomach than man. Homer: “Hey!” McCallister “So I says to me bostens, ‘batten down the missenmast, Matees.” After Lionel Hutz asks if it’s true that he is not a real captain he says “aye” and the court is shocked.

Then Blue-Haired lawyer asks to show how much shrimp Mr. Simpson ate. Men with lots of bags come in, but they were in the wrong room they had letters for Santa Claus that should had been in the People of Springfield v. Chris Cringle. After that he asks Marge: Isn’t it true your husband consumed a 10 pound bag of flour when no other food was available? Marge says yeah and the lawyer quickly shouts your witness!

Lionel Hutz asks Marge his questions. He asks what they did after they left the restaurant. Marge says they pretty much went home but Hutz reminds her she is under oath and she says they drove until 3 AM looking for another seafood all you can it restaurant and that after that they went fishing. She ends up crying. Finally, Hutz asks the jury Did these sound like the actions of a man who had all he can eat? For our surprise the jury is fully integrated buy very fat people who empathize with Homer.

In the end McCallister reaches a settlement with Homer: He gives him all he can eat but he will become a sort of a tourist attraction as you can see in the picture.

In my personal opinion this is a strange case because Lionel Hutz is highly successful in it.

Simpson v. Burns

What Happened:

Bart was skateboarding and he was ran over by Mister Burns. Bart is taken to the hospital where the Simpsons meet Lionel Hutz who was offering his legal services. After Mr. Burns offers Homer 100 dollars (that according to homer would not even cover the medical bills) Homer goes to Lionel Hutz’s office in the Springfield Mall and asks for his help. Hutz is a corrupt lawyer, so he offers Homer Simpson a big cash settlement, even though he is not allowed to do it, and Homer decides to sue for 1,000,000 dollars.

The Trial:

The court is presided by Judge Moulton. ( who will be called Roy Snyder later on the show) In the beggining Blue-Haired lawyer reminds the court how rich and powerful Mr Burns is. Mr Burns says that he should be allowed to ran over all the kids he wants. Judge Moulton (Snyder) says that if he continues with this attitude he will hold him in contempt. Burns says you wouldn’t dare, and the judge cowardly says that he would not.

Bart and Mr Burns tell totally different stories in the stand. The jury appears to believe in Bart’s story and not to believe Mr Burns’. Bart’s testimony is backed up on “doctor” Nick Riviera’s diagnosis, who was hired by Lionel Hutz to make Bart look worse and also has an office in the Springfield Mall.

Barts Testimony:

After this Homer is offered a 500,000 dollar cash settlemen by Mr Burns. When he is discussing the deal with Marge Burns found out about the phony doctor Nick Rivera and corrupt lawyer Lionel Hutz, after this Burns retires the deal and releases the hounds.

Afterwords in the trial Blue-Haired lawyer calls to the stand Mrs. Homer J. Simpson, and Marge tells the truth about Bart’s accident and Nick Rivera. Burns proceeds to offer Simpson the sum of 0 dollars after this. Sadly we do not see Judge Moulton’s (Snyder) opinion on the case.

The People of Springfield v. Krusty the Clown

Judge Snyder’s first appearence is in the twelfth episode of the first season in which Krusty the Clown is accused of armed robbery.

The Crime Scene:

The crime was committed in the Kwik-E-Mart where Homer was buying some ice cream and saw the whole crime. He was a key witness in the trial. Homer hid on the chips across the hall. The crime was also captured by the security cameras. The man robbed the store looked like Krusty the Clown. This are pictures of homer talking to a police officer making a sketch.

The Arrest:

After Homer’s declaration to the policeman Chief Wiggum went for Krusty the Clown. When he Arrests Krusty he reads the Miranda Rights wrongly. he says:” Krusty you’re under arrest for armed robbery. You have the right to remain silent anything you say bla bla bla bla”. That is not mentioned by Krusty’s lawyer later on the trial later.

The Trial:

Jugde Snyder asks Krusty how does he plead. Krusty very nervous pleads guilty and then he corrects himself and pleads innocent. Homer is a key witness in this trial, when he is on the stand he points out krusty as who comitted the crime.

Later Krusty is shown the exhibits by the prosecutor and we find out Krusty cant read after he asked him about exhibit B.

Finally the jury finds Krusty guilty in their verdict.

After the trial:

Krusty’s shown was taken by Sideshow Bob. In that show Bart said he discovered Krusty the Clown was framed and blames Sideshow bob for the crime. He mentions Krusty’ small feet, his inability to use the microwave do to his pacemaker. The policemen who were watching TV proceed to release Krusty and arrest Bob. Bob Confesses whilst he is being arrested.

Comments :

This was clearly an unjust trial, and in my opinion Krusty’s lawyer did a terrible work he should have mentioned the arrest was not well done (but it’s cartoons) . On the other hand, Sideshow Bob’s disguise was really well done. Chief Wiggum shows how lazy he is and does a terrible job but at least he arrested the guilty one in the end of the episode..

Fun Facts:

It is Judge Snyder and the District Attorneys first appeareance they both will appear later in other episodes. Krusty’s lawyer does not appear later and Lionel Hutz and the Blue-haired lawyer are not in the episode.
